Education
“Today’s students are tomorrow’s leaders. Our students must be afforded the best opportunities for them to learn, whether those opportunities exist via a public, private, or home educational setting. Parents’ rights must be respected and their right to a say and a choice regarding their children’s educations must be recognized.” –Ben Loyola
Our nation once had the world’s greatest educational system. Nationally, now we lag behind others. We will never remain the world’s premier economic and military power if we don’t return to our former status as the world’s leader in education. Our nation’s future leaders are today’s students.
Virginia has been a national leader in education reform, but much more needs to be done. Too many students drop out, too many underachieve and too many lock themselves into a destiny of dependency because of failed educational experiences.
The solution is not simply more spending or throwing more money at the problem. The fundamental right of parents to have a say in the process must be valued. A homeschooling family needs to be afforded the same access to resources as a family that elects to enroll their children in public schools. Vouchers and scholarships give parents a true choice when determining the method of education for their children.
