Combat Veteran and Successful Business Owner to Run for Virginia’s 2nd Congressional District
VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – Ben Loyola announced his intentions today to seek the Republican nomination for Virginia’s 2nd Congressional District.
Ben’s Statement:
My father, Ben Loyola Sr., an officer in the Cuban navy before Fidel Castro seized power, saw the Communist takeover’s true purpose and fought against it. For his efforts, he was sentenced to death but managed to escape to the United States. Soon after, mom and I fled the Communist dictatorship and joined my dad in the United States; bringing with us nothing but a single piece of luggage and the hope that America would lead to a better life.
The circumstances of our journey to the United States when I was a toddler instilled within me an intense love of country. Ever grateful for the opportunities I was afforded here, I heard the call of the U.S. Navy, graduated from the Naval Academy at Annapolis, and eventually achieved the rank of Captain. In 1991, I entered the business world, founding Loyola Enterprises, an engineering service contracting firm, starting operations out of a spare room in my house. Today, we have over 40 employees working in offices in Virginia Beach, Hampton, and Richmond.
The United States has blessed me with opportunities no other country can give. Through hard work, my family and I have been able to have wonderful lives here, taking advantage of those opportunities. However, the policies of Nancy Pelosi, Barack Obama, and Glenn Nye are leading America off course. I am greatly troubled by the direction our country is going. Government spending is out of control and we are launching new programs we can’t pay for. Our government is hiring and firing CEO’s, overtaxing its citizens and interfering in our lives. Life is not valued the way it once was and the American family is under attack. We need to reverse course.
It is in these troubled times that I have heard the call to serve my country again. I am officially announcing I will seek the Republican nomination for Congress in the 2nd District and to defeat Glen Nye in the November 2010 election. For 2009, my first priority is the election of the McDonnell-Bolling-Cuccinelli ticket in November and I will be working to make that happen.
Ben Loyola is a candidate for the Republican nomination in Virginia’s 2nd Congressional District. He’s a 25-year resident of Virginia Beach, 30-year Navy combat veteran, successful businessman, and Conservative Republican.
