Ben Loyola Wishes You a Joyous Holiday Celebration

December 23, 2009

As we approach the celebration of Christmas I truly wish the most joyous of celebrations for you and your family.

I find myself awed by the message which Ronald Reagan communicated about Christmas and the sacrifices that have made America a beacon for so many seeking freedom.

“We remember one Christmas in particular, 1776, our first year as a nation. The Revolutionary War had been going badly. But George Washington’s faith, courage, and leadership would turn the tide of history our way. On Christmas night he led a band of ragged soldiers across the Delaware River through driving snow to a victory that saved the cause of independence. It’s said that their route of march was stained by bloody footprints, but their spirit never faltered and their will could not be crushed.

The image of George Washington kneeling in prayer in the snow is one of the most famous in American history. He personified a people who knew it was not enough to depend on their own courage and goodness; they must also seek help from God, their Father and Preserver.” Ronald Reagan, December 24 1983.

This is a special Christmas for Gretchen and me as our first child will be born in February. Our new light of life is part of the new light of life that Christ brought to the world at the first Christmas. Every child is a promise of a new day of hope, and although ours won’t be opening any presents just yet, our hearts have already been opened by the joy of our growing family.

America is the beacon of freedom that my father sacrificed and struggled to reach. Over the years as Americans, we’ve had to fight for it, struggle for it, and pray for it. As we join hands this Christmas season, let’s renew that spirit of hope and optimism. Let’s remember that in His hands all things are possible, and commit ourselves to those founding principles that make America special.

God bless you and your family, and Merry Christmas.
