Republican Ben Loyola Receives Endorsement from Former GOP Chairman and Senator

January 14, 2010

Senator Mel Martinez Former Chairman of the Republican Party and Senator from Florida, Mel Martinez has endorsed Ben Loyola for election in Virginia’s Second District.

“His conservative credentials are without flaw and I hope the voters of Virginia’s Second District send him to Congress,” said Senator Martinez in supporting Loyola in the highly charged and competitive primary to challenge Democrat Glenn Nye.

“Ben Loyola's life story is an inspiration and a great example of the American Dream. Fleeing the tyranny of communist Cuba, Ben came to America’s shores, served his country in uniform and became a successful businessman.”

Loyola is proud of the support from a leader who has served the Republican Party and our country in so many ways.

“Senator Martinez’s endorsement of me in this race is another example of how competitive this nomination contest will be,” said Loyola. “His 100% pro-life rating, his strong opposition to high taxes and his willingness to be an independent leader are things that we both share.”

Mel Martinez most recently served as Senator from Florida. He was born in Sagua La Grande, Cuba, on October 23, 1946, immigrated to the United States in 1962; lived with foster families until reunited with his family in Orlando, Fla., in 1966.
