Loyola Criticizes Nye's Pro-Abortion Vote
November 8, 2009
Beneath the drama of the Democrats in the House of Representatives and their vote to take over the health care system of America was a vote on an amendment to ban abortion services from being a part of this so-called health care reform.
Congressman Glenn Nye joined the left-wing of his caucus to oppose that common sense provision and voted to leave the door open for government-subsidized health care plans to include abortions.
“No one should be fooled by Congressman Nye's vote on final passage, since House Speaker Nancy Pelosi had already proclaimed Democrats had the votes without him,” said Republican candidate for Congress Ben Loyola. “What’s more telling is Glenn Nye’s vote to open the door to abortion services being part of the so-called ‘public option’.”
The Stupak Amendment mirrors the existing federal policy known as the Hyde Amendment and prohibits the use of federal funding for abortion under the public health insurance option and prohibits the use of federal affordability credits to purchase a health insurance policy that covers abortion. It passed the House on a bipartisan 240-194.
“Glenn Nye knew, as we all did, that the Health Care takeover bill was going to pass the House. His vote against prohibiting government health care from being used to fund abortion services tells voters of the Second District that he is no moderate.”
Ben Loyola is a candidate for the Republican nomination in Virginia’s 2nd Congressional District. He’s a 25-year resident of Virginia Beach, 30-year Navy combat veteran, successful businessman, and Conservative Republican.
