Loyola Calls Proposed Carrier Move
“A Crisis of Competence”

February 8, 2010

Congressional candidate Ben Loyola voices strong opposition to a recommendation that would relocate at least one Norfolk-based aircraft carrier. The Quadrennial Defense Review includes a statement that supports moving a regionally-based aircraft carrier to Mayport, Florida.

“I disagree with those who believe in moving a carrier or carriers to Mayport, Florida. More importantly, I am disappointed in the leadership of our Democratic Congressional Representatives and Senators and I believe that the facts don’t support the relocation.”

It’s also a question of priorities, argued Loyola. ”Our Democratic representatives recently voted to raise the national debt limit 1.9 trillion dollars. That vote alone could’ve paid for over 300 new carriers. It’s one thing to be fiscally conservative, but let’s not let Washington play politics with defense by bribing a Florida constituency with an aircraft carrier.”

Ben Loyola believes that none of the Virginia Democrats in Washington actually favor moving carriers to Florida. But Loyola believes we are facing a crisis of competence in these important matters.

“In 2008, we elected a “radical centrist” for President who has been anything but that and we let the anti-military MoveOn.Org pick an inexperienced, untested 2nd district candidate with a thin resume to be our Congressman,” Loyola added. “It’s time Virginians in the Second District start voicing their displeasure with the way Washington does business.”

Ben Loyola is a candidate for the Republican nomination in Virginia’s 2nd Congressional District. He’s a 25-year resident of Virginia Beach, US Naval Academy graduate, 30-year Navy veteran with combat experience, successful award winning businessman, and a true Conservative Reagan Republican.
